Creating Your First Store Item
Your store is the place where you can sell practically anything. Videos, courses, challenges, workshops, physical goods & merchandise, and much more. This article will get you started creating content to sell on your online storefront!
Check out Laurel Marsh's online store for some inspiration!
Navigate to the Store Page
The first thing you need to do is log in and go to your admin portal, which is the backend of your account.
Then navigate to the "Store" page under the "Payments" section and press the "Add Section" button.
Add Your First Store Section
Sections are collections of store items and they help you organize your store content. You can create sections for Videos, Courses, Meditations, Challenges, Merchandise, and any other different type of item that you want to organize in a section.
When you press the "Add Section" button, you'll see a pop-up like the above. You can enter the name of your section in the "Section Name" field. The section name will appear on your public store page if you check the "Show Section Title" checkbox. You can choose to publish the section right away or leave it unpublished.
By default, if you have more than a few items in your section, your items will be shown in a slider (aka carousel). This helps streamline your store if you have a lot of items. If instead, you would like the items in your section to be expanded and shown in a grid, check the "Expanded View" checkbox. To learn more about this and other ways to help your audience find what they are looking for, check out this article on filters, tags and the expanded view option.
Add Your First Store Item
After you've created your first section, you can create your first store item by pressing the "Add item" button in your newly created section.
Fill Out the Basic Information For Your Store Item
Now you'll fill out all the details about your store item. The item name is the title of your store item and will appear on the store page and the store item landing page. You want to pick something short and to the point (.e.g. 30 Minute Restorative Yoga or How to Build an Online Store 101). Then you can enter custom Call To Action text. This will be displayed on buttons in your store page and on the store item landing page. Next, you'll want to enter a description of your store item. This is where you can really explain the value of your content. You want to give people a reason to invest their time and/or money in your content. You can add rich formatted text and embed images and videos as well. You can refer to articles in this section to add those things to your description. You can also add a feature image to your store item. This will be displayed on your store item card and also on your store item landing page. Pick something that captures the essence of your store item.
Item Type
You can choose between Digital Content and Physical Good. Digital content is something that you are selling that is a digital asset like a video, pre-recorded course, challenge, etc. A physical good is a merchandise like a T-Shirt, water bottle, etc.
Setting Up Payment Options For Your Store Item
Next, You'll set up how someone can access this item. Just like your offerings, you can accept payments in multiple forms and even integrate with Memberships and Packages. You can set a fixed price or check the "Allow tiered pricing" checkbox to have flexible payment options. We ONLY accept Stripe accounts for collecting payments for store items, so make sure you have a Stripe account set up. You can also choose to "Pass fees on" which will add our platform fee to the purchaser's total or you can choose to "Absorb fees" and they will be deducted from your payout.
Membership and Package Access
If you have Memberships and Packages you can allow people with those items to gain access by checking the "Allow Membership and Package Access" checkbox. Here you can choose to give access to "All members and package holders" or you can select which membership levels and packages gain access. If someone has a valid membership, they will receive the item at no additional cost. If someone has a valid package, they will receive the item for one credit on their package.
*Note: If someone uses their membership to access a store item, they will continue to have access to that item as long as their membership is valid for use regardless of the "Limited Time" settings on the store item.
Limited Time Access
You can set your store item to be available only for a limited time after purchase. This turns your store item into more of a rental rather than a purchase as your clients only get the item for a limited time. Note that if a client uses their membership to access the item, the member will continue to have access as long as their membership is valid regardless of the settings input here.
Adding Tags and Filter Options to Your Store Item
If you add tags to your store items, it allows the users of your store to more quickly and easily find what they are looking for. They can just press the filter button and quickly see all the items that match what they are looking for. To read more about adding filters and tags, check out this help article.
Now It's Time To Add Your Content (Digital Content Only)
Don't forget to press the Next: Add Content button. This will save your store item and take you to the page where you can add content to your item. * Note that if you are creating a physical good you will not add any content and will just save your store item.
Next, we'll talk about the most important part! The content your store item contains. Head on over to the next article that discusses that topic.
