If you are looking to release content over time when someone purchases or uses a membership to access your online course, video series, challenge, etc, then this article is for you! This can be a great way to keep your clients engaged over time and not overwhelm them with too much information right away.
This article assumes that you already have created a store item and have added some content. To learn how to do those things, check out these help articles first:
Set Your Content to "Drip" Over Time
To get started, click the Drip Content Settings button on the Edit Content page (see image below).
By default, all your content will be set to release at the time of purchase. This means that all the content will be available to your client immediately. Instead, to drip out content over time, press the drop-down and select either Receive based on purchase date or Receive on specific date.
Receive Based on Purchase Date
If you select, Receive based on purchase date, you'll be able to control when your clients get each piece of content based on when they first purchased or accessed your store item. For each piece of content, you can set:
- When the content will be released
- If they should get an email notification when the new content is released to them
- The ability to customize the email notification subject and message.
Make sure to Press the Save Button when you are done making changes.
Receive on a Specific Date
If you select, Receive on specific date, you'll be able to control when your clients get each piece of content based on a specific date and time that you select. Note that the date and time you select will be in the timezone your computer or mobile device is set to. For each piece of content, you can set:
- What date and time the content will be released (in your device timezone)
- If they should get an email notification when the new content is released to them
- The ability to customize the email notification subject and message.
Make sure to Press the Save Button when you are done making changes.
Editing Your Drip Settings
You can come in and edit your drip settings at any time and even change the way your content drips out (all at once, from purchase date or specific date). There are a few things you should keep in mind if you already have people who have purchased your items.
- Anybody who purchased or accessed your content and already has been granted access to your content will not have that content revoked or removed based on changes to the drip settings. For example, if you previously had your content release all at once and someone already purchased it and has access to all the content for that item, any changes to the drip settings will not affect that person's content access. They will continue to have access to all the content for that store item.
- Any content that was set to drip out (has not yet been granted) will be rescheduled based on changes you make to the drip settings. For instance, if you had a piece of content scheduled to drip out on a specific date like April 1st, 2040 and you changed the drip settings to release 10 minutes after the purchase date, that content will be granted to that person when it has been 10 minutes since the purchase. If it has been more than 10 minutes since the purchase the content will also be granted and any email notifications will go out at that time.
Currently, it is not possible to mix and match dripping based on the purchase date or a specific date. All content for a single store item must be dripped out the same way.
We hope you found this article useful!
Adding Existing Content
If you have drip settings set up for your store item content and you want to add additional content, a pop-up will appear asking you to input the drip settings before the additional content can be saved. This content will be dripped out to any eligible people who previously purchased your store item as well, so it may be a good idea to add an email notification to the drip settings to alert people of the new content.
