In this article, we'll explain how to add a membership to one of your client's accounts. To get started, first, create your memberships. See this help article to learn how to create a membership.
Method 1: Gifting a Membership Directly
This method allows you to quickly assign a membership to a contact without requiring payment.
Steps to Gift a Membership
- Navigate to the membership you want to give
- Click Actions and select View Details
- Click the Give Membership button
- Search for the client in your contact list OR add their name and email address
- Type in a personalized message (optional)
- Change membership settings if needed:
- Credits: Change from limited (e.g., 8 credits per cycle) to unlimited if desired
- Expiration Date: Set a specific date, or leave blank to default to one membership period
- Submit to complete the gift
Note
- If you don't set an expiration date, it defaults to one membership period (e.g., one month for monthly memberships)
- You can customize the number of credits or make them unlimited
- Perfect for complimentary memberships or promotional offers
Method 2: Selling Through Point of Sale
Use this method when processing payment or applying a discount code for a membership.
Steps to Sell via Point of Sale
- Access the Point of Sale
- Look up the client or add their details manually
- Navigate to the Membership page and click on the membership you want to sell
- On the checkout page, choose your payment method:
- Use their saved card
- Manually key in card details
- Using a payment terminal (if available)
- Apply a gift card
- Use a discount code. Important: Discount codes apply to ALL billing cycles, not just the first one.
- Select when the membership should start:
- Now: Membership begins immediately
- On First Use: Membership begins when the client first uses a credit
- Specific Date: Choose a future start date (ideal for pre-selling). The billing cycle won't begin until that start date
- Click Submit to complete the transaction
Tips and Best Practices
Understanding "Available for Sale" Setting
- Even if a membership is disabled from being "Available for Sale":
- Clients cannot purchase it on their own
- You can still sell it through the point of sale
- You can still gift it to clients
- Useful for exclusive or invite-only memberships
Quick Reference
Need to give a free membership? → Use Method 1 (Gifting) OR use a 100% discount code in Method 2
Need to collect payment? → Use Method 2 (Point of Sale)
Need to pre-sell a membership? → Use Method 2 and select "Specific Date" for the start date
